Our weekly compliment web!

Dear Families of Room 128,

We have had a very busy week yet again in room 128! Even with the year wrapping up, everyone has continued to work hard, especially on their animal books! This week we continued to learn about animals. Our focus was on habitats and why animals live where they live and how being in a different environment would be harmful to them. We also finished our non-fiction books about animals this week using the research webs that students did last week. Everyone is very excited to share their animal books next week!

In math this week we continued learning about halves and fourths and how quarters are each a fourth of a dollar. We also began using circle graphs and interpreting the information from them.

On Tuesday, librarians from the Urbana Free Library came to Yankee Ridge to tell students about the summer reading program,  “Have Book- Will Travel!” This reading program is a great way to encourage your child to read over the summer, and you DO NOT have to have a library card to sign up!!

On Thursday, the 5th grade band and string players put on a short assembly for the school. Our class really enjoyed listening to the many different instruments!

This was the last week of homework for the school year! Thank you for all that you’ve done with your child all school year. Please continue to read 5 nights a week either to or with your child.

Next Tuesday we will be heading to Meadowbrook Park. Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.

The last day of school will be on Tuesday, May 28th with dismissal at 9:15AM. During the one hour of school, the YR PTA will be hosting a parent breakfast in the gym and all are invited! Progress reports will be sent home that morning.

Have a great weekend!
